Srila Prabhupada's ISKCON – A Global Spiritual Movement
-
📜 The Beginning: Srila Prabhupada’s Historic Mission
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) was founded in 1966 in New York City by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada at the age of 70.
With deep compassion and unwavering faith, Srila Prabhupada left India in 1965 to fulfill the instruction of his spiritual master: to spread the teachings of Lord Krishna and Bhagavad-gita to the English-speaking world. What began as a small storefront in the Bowery has now grown into one of the world’s largest spiritual and cultural movements.
🕊️ Srila Prabhupada’s Legacy
Srila Prabhupada personally authored more than 80 volumes of books, including Bhagavad-gita As It Is, Srimad-Bhagavatam, and Caitanya-caritamrita.
His teachings continue to guide millions of devotees, students, and spiritual seekers across the globe.
“I have built a house in which the whole world can live.” – Srila Prabhupada
ISKCON is rooted in the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition, following the teachings of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu, the 16th-century incarnation of Lord Krishna who inaugurated the sankirtana movement (congregational chanting of the holy names).
